Big Pop-Up Charity Car Wash Comes to Harwood: Supporting Young People, Building Stronger Communities

Thursday 2nd July | White Horse, Harwood | 10am – 4pm

At Genuine Futures, we believe that when young people are given opportunities, they can achieve incredible things.

That’s exactly what we’ll be celebrating on Thursday 2nd July as we host our Big Pop-Up Charity Car Wash at the White Horse in Harwood, Bolton.

This isn’t just about washing cars.

It’s about creating opportunities, building confidence, developing employability skills and bringing communities together to support the next generation.

Every donation made on the day will help support local young people through our youth-led initiatives, helping them gain valuable experience, develop new skills and build brighter futures.

More Than a Car Wash

The Big Pop-Up Charity Car Wash will bring together local residents, businesses, supporters, volunteers and young people for a day focused on community action and positive change.

Every donation helps support:

✅ Employability Skills
✅ Enterprise Skills
✅ Youth Mentoring
✅ Community Projects
✅ Work Experience Opportunities
✅ Confidence Building
✅ Social Enterprise Development

By attending, you’re not simply getting your car cleaned—you are investing in the future of young people across Bolton and Greater Manchester.

A Warm Welcome from the White Horse

Recently, we visited the White Horse and met with Kelly, the landlady, alongside Paula, one of our Young Ambassadors.

From the moment we met Kelly at the White Horse, her enthusiasm for supporting young people was clear to see.

Alongside Paula, we shared the story behind Genuine Futures, Clean Futures and We Shine Any Car, explaining how these youth-led initiatives are helping young people develop confidence, employability skills and real-world experience.

Kelly immediately understood the importance of creating opportunities for young people and was keen to support an event that gives something back to the local community. Her positivity, encouragement and willingness to get involved made us feel incredibly welcome.

Community partnerships like this are vital. When local businesses open their doors and invest in young people, they help create the opportunities, experiences and support networks that can change lives.

We are incredibly grateful to Kelly and the team at the White Horse for their support and for helping us bring the Big Pop-Up Charity Car Wash to Harwood.

Paula’s Voice: Why This Event Matters

One of the most inspiring moments during our visit came from Paula, who spoke passionately on camera about the importance of the event and what Genuine Futures means to her.

Paula understands first-hand the difference that support, encouragement and opportunity can make in a young person’s life.

Speaking about the upcoming car wash, she highlighted how every conversation, every donation and every act of support helps young people realise their potential.

Paula spoke about the importance of giving young people opportunities to learn, contribute and feel valued within their communities.

Her message was simple but powerful:

“When somebody believes in you, it can change everything.”

That belief is at the heart of everything we do.

Clean Futures: Creating Cleaner Communities and Brighter Futures

Clean Futures is a Genuine Futures youth-led cleaning initiative founded through our flagship Boss Your Future programme.

Over the past two years, Boss Your Future has supported young people who were not in education, employment or training, helping them develop confidence, employability skills and aspirations through enterprise and personal development activities.

As the programme grew, we recognised a challenge faced by many young people:

What happens when the programme ends?

Many young people still needed opportunities to continue building their skills and experience in a real working environment.

That’s why Clean Futures was created.

Rather than simply delivering training, we wanted to create a social enterprise that provides meaningful work experience while improving local communities.

Today, Clean Futures delivers:

🗑️ Wheelie Bin Cleaning
🏡 Driveway Cleaning
🚿 Patio & Pressure Washing
🏢 Bin Store Cleaning
🌱 Community Clean-Up Projects

Every project completed helps young people develop practical skills, confidence and work readiness while making a visible difference in the community.

As we often say:

Clean Bins. Cleaner Communities. Brighter Futures.

We Shine Any Car: Not Just Cleaning Cars, Changing Lives

Alongside Clean Futures, our young people are helping build We Shine Any Car, a youth-led valeting and car cleaning social enterprise developed through Genuine Futures.

Born from the success of Boss Your Future, We Shine Any Car provides young people with real-world opportunities to develop:

✅ Customer Service Skills
✅ Teamwork
✅ Communication Skills
✅ Enterprise Skills
✅ Confidence and Independence

The project demonstrates how social enterprise can be used to tackle some of the challenges facing young people today by creating pathways into employment, self-employment and further opportunities.

Every vehicle cleaned helps support the development of local young people while generating income that can be reinvested into future opportunities.

As our slogan says:

“We’re Not Just Cleaning Cars. We’re Changing Lives.”

Why Community Events Like This Matter

Across the UK, more than one million young people are currently not in education, employment or training.

Many face barriers that prevent them from accessing opportunities, building confidence or gaining experience.

At Genuine Futures, we believe the answer isn’t simply talking about the problem.

It’s creating solutions.

The Big Pop-Up Charity Car Wash provides young people with:

  • Real work experience
  • Community engagement opportunities
  • Confidence-building experiences
  • Enterprise learning
  • Positive role models
  • A sense of belonging and purpose

At the same time, it gives the wider community an opportunity to support something positive and meaningful.

Together We Can Create Brighter Futures

We would like to thank Kelly and the team at the White Horse, our volunteers, supporters, partners and everyone who continues to support our mission.

Most importantly, we would like to thank the young people who continue to show up, work hard and prove every day that, given the right opportunities, they can achieve incredible things.

Through Boss Your Future, Clean Futures and We Shine Any Car, we are creating pathways to opportunity while building stronger communities.

Because this is about more than cleaning cars.

It’s about creating hope.

It’s about creating opportunity.

It’s about creating futures.

We’re Not Just Cleaning Cars. We’re Changing Lives.
