This week marks an exciting milestone as we completed our first four Bin Store Health & Safety Audits at Thornbank Estate in Deane, Bolton.
These audits represent the launch of a new preventative environmental service that has been designed to support housing associations, local authorities, NHS organisations, facilities management companies and commercial landlords to identify risks early, improve communal spaces and develop planned maintenance programmes.
For us, this isn’t simply about cleaning bin stores. It’s about helping organisations prevent problems before they become bigger issues while creating meaningful opportunities for young people.
Why Bin Store Health & Safety Audits Matter
Communal bin stores are often overlooked until problems arise.
Overflowing bins, fly-tipping, graffiti, weeds, unpleasant odours, blocked drains and pest activity can quickly affect residents’ quality of life, increase complaints and create unnecessary health and safety risks.
Our Bin Store Health & Safety Audit takes a proactive approach by assessing the condition of each site before recommending practical improvements.
Every audit includes an assessment of:

One of the most rewarding parts of this project has been seeing Cameron take a leading role in delivering the inspections.
By carrying out the audits, Cameron is gaining real-world experience in environmental inspections, health and safety awareness, customer communication and professional reporting.
These are transferable skills that will support his journey into employment while making a positive contribution to the community.
This reflects what Clean Futures is all about—delivering professional environmental services while creating genuine pathways into volunteering, training and employment for young people.
Building on Strong Partnerships
The development of our Bin Store Health & Safety Audit™ has been strengthened through our collaborative work with Squosh It, whose expertise has helped shape our approach to preventative environmental management.
We’re also grateful for the support we’ve received through the National Lottery Community Fund, whose investment in our Clean Start Initiative has enabled us to develop Clean Futures, purchase our specialist pressure washing equipment and begin delivering professional environmental services that combine commercial quality with social impact.
Our recent work, including our first deep clean at Oldham Royal Hospital, has demonstrated how this approach can benefit organisations while creating meaningful opportunities for young people.
Looking Ahead
Completing our first four audits is just the beginning.
Our ambition is to work alongside housing associations, councils, NHS Trusts and facilities management providers across Greater Manchester and beyond, helping them maintain cleaner, safer and healthier communal environments through planned preventative maintenance.
We are also developing a digital Bin Store Health & Safety Audit™ reporting system, enabling clients to receive professional inspection reports with photographic evidence, recommendations and maintenance planning.
