Young People Creating Cleaner Communities and Brighter Futures

Clean Futures, a youth-led enterprise from Genuine Futures CIC, has reached an exciting milestone after successfully completing its first commercial NHS bin store deep clean at Parklands House, Royal Oldham Hospital.

Delivered in partnership with Squosh It and supported by the NHS Environmental Services team, the project demonstrates how professional environmental cleaning can also create life-changing opportunities for young people.

For many organisations, this was another completed contract.

For us, it represents something much bigger.

It proves that when businesses, public sector organisations and social enterprises work together, we can create cleaner environments while opening doors for the next generation.

More Than Cleaning

Clean Futures was created to do more than clean buildings and external spaces.

Our mission is to provide meaningful employment, training and work experience for young people who have faced barriers to education, employment or training.

Too often, young people are defined by labels, statistics or past experiences.

We believe they should be defined by their potential.

By working on a live NHS site, our young people experienced the expectations of a professional commercial contract while developing confidence, teamwork, communication and workplace skills that will support them throughout their careers.

Young People Rose to the Challenge

Despite extremely high temperatures, the team approached the project with professionalism, determination and pride.

A special congratulations goes to Aaron and Cameron, who were up at 6:00ampreparing for the day ahead. Their work ethic, attention to detail and commitment reflected the values that Clean Futures aims to instil in every young person we support.

We would also like to thank Ashley, one of our dedicated volunteers, whose encouragement and support helped make the project such a success.

The team didn’t simply clean a bin store.

They created a cleaner, safer environment for NHS staff, patients and visitors while demonstrating exactly what young people can achieve when given genuine opportunities.

Following the project, John reflected:

Recognition like this means a great deal to our young people, who often hear more about what they cannot do than what they can.
