Youth-Led Social Enterprise Celebrates Major Milestone with First Commercial Bin Store Transformation Project
We are delighted to announce that Clean Futures has secured its first Estate Transformation Programme project, which will take place at Oldham Hospital on Thursday 25th June.
This marks a significant milestone for Clean Futures, a Genuine Futures CIC youth-led initiative founded through our flagship Boss Your Future programme, which supports young people aged 15–24 to develop employability, enterprise and life skills through real-world opportunities.
The project will see our team carrying out a full transformation of a communal bin store area, helping to improve cleanliness, presentation and environmental standards while providing valuable hands-on experience for local young people.
This is about much more than cleaning.
It is about creating opportunities, building confidence and demonstrating how young people can make a positive contribution to their communities when given the chance.
A Collaborative Approach with Squosh It
A key part of the Estate Transformation Programme is our growing partnership with Squosh It, led by Eric McBean.
By combining Clean Futures’ cleaning and environmental improvement services with Squosh It’s innovative waste management solutions, we are developing a collaborative approach that tackles both the appearance and functionality of communal waste areas.
Together, we want to help organisations move beyond simply reacting to complaints and instead create cleaner, safer and better-managed environments for residents, staff, visitors and local communities.
This partnership brings together environmental improvement, waste management, social value and youth development in a way that delivers long-term impact.
Supporting Young People Through Real Opportunities
The Oldham Hospital project will be delivered alongside several young people involved in the Boss Your Future programme, giving them the opportunity to gain practical experience on a live commercial project.
The project will also be supported by Ashley Kinsella, one of our dedicated volunteers, who will be working alongside the young people throughout the day, helping them develop confidence, teamwork and workplace skills.
For many of the young people we support, opportunities like this are often the first step towards employment, further training or starting their own enterprise journey.
Young People’s Voices
One young person involved in the programme said:
“Before Genuine Futures I didn’t have much confidence and spent most of my time at home. Being involved in projects like this helps me learn new skills and feel like I’m part of something positive.”
Another participant added:
“It’s good to be trusted with real work. We’re not just talking about getting a job one day, we’re actually getting experience and learning how things work.”
These opportunities are exactly what the Boss Your Future programme was designed to achieve—giving young people real-world experience while making a visible difference in their communities.
What the Estate Transformation Programme Delivers
The programme was developed in response to the growing challenges faced by housing providers, NHS organisations, local authorities and businesses dealing with litter, odours, fly-tipping, pest issues and neglected communal areas.
Through the programme, Clean Futures provides:
Bin store deep cleaning
Pressure washing
Deodorising
Pest management support
Environmental improvements
Ongoing maintenance programmes
While every project creates meaningful opportunities for young people to gain practical work experience and develop the skills needed for employment and entrepreneurship.

Looking Ahead
The Oldham Hospital project will become the first official case study for the Clean Futures Estate Transformation Programme and will help demonstrate the value of combining environmental improvement, social value and youth development.
Through our collaborative approach with Squosh It and the support of volunteers such as Ashley Kinsella, we believe we can help organisations create cleaner environments, reduce waste-related issues and improve community pride while providing opportunities for the next generation.
