Every Great Enterprise Starts With an Idea

What if one idea from a young person could grow into a community enterprise that creates opportunities for others?

That’s exactly what happened at Genuine Futures.

During our eight-week Taste of Enterprise school project, young people were encouraged to think like entrepreneurs, develop business ideas and create brands that could make a real difference.

It was during one of those sessions that Jace came up with a name that would go on to become something much bigger.

At the time, it was simply an idea.

Today, We Shine Any Car has become a growing community enterprise, powered by Genuine Futures, helping young people gain confidence, practical skills and valuable experience while serving the local community.

Turning an Idea into Opportunity

Jace probably never imagined that a name created during a school enterprise project would become the identity of a real social enterprise.

But that’s exactly what happened.

Today, young people work together washing and valeting vehicles, learning customer service, teamwork, communication and responsibility in a supportive environment.

Reflecting on seeing the business in action, Jace said:

“We’ve washed cars quick and we’ve done a decent job on them.” – Jace

His words capture something important.

Young people don’t just want to be told they have potential.

They want the opportunity to prove it.

Listening First Changes Everything

At Genuine Futures, we believe young people should help shape the opportunities available to them.

Too often, services are designed around young people without listening to their ideas.

We believe in doing things differently.

Rather than creating opportunities for young people, we create them with young people.

Jace’s idea became the identity of an enterprise that is now helping other young people build brighter futures.

We Shine Any Car is about much more than cleaning vehicles.

Every Thursday, young people develop practical skills that employers value, including:

Every car washed becomes another opportunity for a young person to learn, grow and move closer to employment.

Creating Pathways into Entry-Level Jobs

Across the UK, many young people tell us the same thing.

“I need experience, but nobody will give me a chance.”

Entry-level jobs are becoming harder to find, and many employers now expect experience before offering someone their first opportunity.

We Shine Any Car helps bridge that gap.

Young people gain real experience with real customers in a real working environment. They learn what it means to arrive on time, work as part of a team, communicate with customers and take pride in delivering a quality service.

These are the skills that build confidence and help young people progress into employment, apprenticeships, further education or even start their own businesses.
